Silk is a typical symbol of Chinese civilization and one of
the earliest artifacts for the world to know China. Hangzhou silk
has a long history. It is velvety with brilliant colors and wide
varieties. A variety of silk products decorate people’s lives.
Since the opening of the Silk Road more than 2,000 years ago,
various silk fabrics have become one of the most popular goods
in trade exchanges between the East and the West. As the home
of silk in China, Hangzhou has enjoyed a high reputation for its
soft and gorgeous silk in China and spread to Asia, Africa and
Europe along the Silk Road and the Maritime Silk Road. Today,
Hangzhou silk is still shining in the new era. It not only highlights
the traditional Chinese elements, but also innovates and leads new
fashion trends. At the state banquet of the G20 Hangzhou Summit
in 2016, Hangzhou silk was creatively used to make place cards,
invitations, menus, and performance programs. Besides, there
is a huge panoramic silk mural of the West Lake displaying the
beautiful landscape of the West Lake in an all-round way, which
shows the charm of Hangzhou silk.
