译文

孔子说：“君子之道有三个方面，我都未能做到：仁德的人不忧愁，
聪明的人不迷惑，勇敢的人不畏惧。”子贡说：“这正是老师的自我表述啊！”

一个人不可能没有任何的错误和缺陷。谁也不敢保证自己仁德、聪明、勇敢而

从不忧愁、迷惑、畏惧。就如我姐姐是位牙医，根治了许多人在牙齿上的烦恼，但
她本人的牙齿情况很不乐观，每次自己去补牙的时候都要纠结许久。

没有一个人是十全十美的；但这也不代表我们因此可以自我放弃，将此作为不
思进取的理由。只有正视自己的长处和短处，取长补短，不断地完善自我，才是正

确的做法。（冯远）

英译

Confucius once remarked, “A wise and good man may be known in three ways
which I am not able to show in my own person. As a moral man he is free from anxiety;
as a man of understanding he is free from doubt; and as a man of courage he is free free

fear.” Zigong, who heard what Confucius said, then remarked, “That is only what you say

of yourself, sir.”
