The total area of “West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou”
is 3,322.88 hectares, which is composed of six key elements: the
natural landscape of the West Lake, the spatial feature of the lake
surrounded on three sides by cloud-capped hills and on the fourth by
the city of Hangzhou, the landscape pattern of “two causeways and
three islands”, the title landscape of “Top Ten Scenes of West Lake”,
the cultural history of the West Lake and the special plants of the
West Lake. With the focus on the philosophy of “perfect integration
between man and nature”, the Landscape has become increasingly
perfect in the continuous evolution of more than ten centuries. It
gradually becomes a “famous lake filled with oriental culture”
featured by rich landscape elements, unique design methods, long
historical development and profound cultural connotation.
